The Golden Circle Design Process

Kia Ora Year 11

We watched this film - 'The Golden Circle', back in week 1 and we started a brainstorm to think about ideas that could sustain us for a whole years work for our folio boards.

I want you to watch this film again and start planning your 'WHY' - start in the middle. Revisit your brainstorm and choose your best and strongest idea to start this process with.
Some starting points to think about:
-Why am I passionate about this idea?
-What do I like about it (either about the style or the idea)
-Why would people want to see art about this idea?

Once you think you have filled out the 'WHY' with a good amount of detail, move onto the 'HOW'.
-How can you represent this idea through your artwork?

If these are completed well, the 'WHAT' should be quite easy - this will be your practical process.

Year 10 Week 3

Kia Ora Year 10

By now you will have had a good chance to practice your observational drawing.

We are now moving onto compositional elements and producing well thought out works. You will find slides to the elements we are looking at as well as our focal points.

We are going to incorporate the 5 birds that the new HHS learning Hubs will be named after.

Go onto our art site and view this under the 'CREATE' page.

Choose a bird you like, think about their colours and the meaning of the bird and incorporate these ideas into your composition plans.

Success means:
- You have completed a page with 4 different potential layouts looking at focal point, arrangement and leading lines
- You have labelled/annotated these with what things are and what different media you are going to use (e.g. paint, sketch, ink, charcoal, paper, text etc.)
- You have done a practice sketch of your bird

Once these are done, you can start on your first A4 work

Research Pages

Kia Ora Year 9 Classes

Your task for the next 3 lessons is to complete 4x A3 research pages - one for each of our art styles we are incorporating into our own compositions.

Once we have completed these, we will start breaking into our 2 areas of either painting or printmaking

Our 4 areas are:
- Pasifika
- Manga
- Kowhaiwhai
- Art Nouveau

You will find links to these on our class site under the 'CREATE' page  - this will lead you to Pinterest pages. Stick to the images on these pages only.

You will need to copy the drawings you like. Have a go at a range of different things as this will give you practice into understanding the shapes and patterns of each style of art.

Success means:

  • 1 A3 page of drawing from all 4 movements (4pages total)
  • 1 great blog post documenting these pages
  • 1 great blog post with notes showing your learning about all 4.

Level 3 3.1 Task 1 discussion

Kia Ora Level 3 Students

As a lot of us had some issues with task 1 of the 3.1 Art History internal, Whaea Rowena and I are trying to remedy getting you into a google+ community where we can open a discussion about our different areas of Art (painting, photography and design). Your definitions were spot on but all of you missed the link 'in relation to art'. We have constructed some links and questions to get you thinking more in depth about these art movements.

For now, I have sent you an email with the links relating to your area. There will either be an article for you to read or a video for you to watch. I have also linked you with a google doc as well as some discussion points for you to write some notes and opinions on. I would like at least one question point answered by next lesson.

Have a great afternoon
